Good point. Spoiler-tagged my earlier videos! Here's one more. This probably isn't the best song in Sleeping Dogs, but it is the catchiest:
I went back and spoilered my contributions in the hopes it helps at least a little, as the thread collapsing under its own weight makes me sad too!
This thread needs some Double Dragon Neon. This one makes me want to start a training montage: Skullmageddon takes a page from GlaDOS's playbook: You can get the whole thing here for <whatever price you want to pay>: http://virt.bandcamp.com/album/double-dragon-neon
Hey, MulMizu, I found one! Lately I've really been enjoying the Gravity Rush soundtrack. The game's visual aesthetics are based on french comic book art, especially Moebius, and the music is reminicent of Studio Ghibli and 30s jazz. It's wonderful. Some of my favourite tracks:
Indeed! Let the thread rise once again! Anywho, I'll just cross post the links I put into the 'What are you Listening to' post (not taking them out of there entirely since there is one non-game track in there): I suggest wearing headphones for the first one... there's a lot going on that you only catch with headphones, or by listening really intently. I should really write a post focusing on Nier's music one of these days...
I've actually been listening to the music from Gitaroo Man, a quirky anime-styled rhythm game for the PS2, published by Koei. I'll probably edit this post later and add all the songs (there's really only 8 or 9 of 'em), but for now, here's 4 of my favorites, all in wildly different styles: Sorta wish I had a capture card so I could stream the game; it's really neat to see in motion, and I'm good enough at it to not make a complete fool of myself. One nifty part? Ingame the songs actually switch between several different parts... so what you hear in the youtube vids isn't necessarily what you'd hear in game.
I know, it's Sonic and this song is corny as hell, but there were times when I played the City Escape stage just to hear this song.
Sonic Adventure 2 had some pretty rad music in general, but the main theme in particular is awesome for being a crazy, over-the-top, 90s-style power ballad:
Shogun 2 has a lot of excellent music, especially the Fall of the Samurai expansion. My favorite track is one that plays during a battle when you're still marching in but haven't smashed armies together yet - it's for the "skirmishing" phase. The Fall of the Samurai music all rolls with a mix of traditional Japanese instruments overlaid with Western brass, strings, and snare drums, exactly the right tone for the subject and period. A few other tracks from Radiant Historia have already been posted, but the game's a real treasure trove of music. My favorite is this theme for the hero's home city, a steam(?)-powered magic kingdom. The bustle and activity are in the measured, repeated harmony, while the city's slow slide towards tragedy is captured by the wistful melody. There's a visual novel I played where a fairy tale is central to the premise, and this track plays when you hear the story recited in the opening scenes. Every time I hear the opening notes, I follow along by saying "Once upon a time..." in my mind. Listen to the track, and you'll know when the fairy tale starts, too - and what kind of story it is.
The theme to Mystic Towers is pretty badass. It starts just after the Apogee music http://youtu.be/Jp5nCiReRec
Okay this is a cool thing, just trust me. Listen to this game track while this site is open in another tab, Accompanying gif: Fuck off I've been drinking and it's awesome
It was a cool, bleak night. The rain stuck to Superjay like some sort of oppressive wet blanket. His only companion was a bottle of whisky which sang to him like some lost melody. The dour atmosphere promised only one thing - a long night on Brokenforum.
I'm surprised no one mentioned the end theme to Metal Gear Solid. It was the first instance I ever had where upon hearing it I had to track down a copy of soudtrack so I could listen to the song outside of the game. (I'm pretty sure no one posted it already... but even so it awesome so who cares)
I like (any combination of 'game', 'music', 'video') threads! Though this one seems to hate my browser. /sadface This one goes without saying. Freedom Force <3 (if you're impatient, jump to 2:00) Thunderscape: SSI's party-based dungeon crawler (blobber) from 1995. It sounds so cheesy, but I thought it was cool back then! Realms of Arkania 2: Star Trail (Sir-Tech, 1994) had some crazay midi music. This one (character generation) has been sitting in my playlist forever. The embedder doesn't seem to support timecodes, so I linked it instead
I was expecting the music in SuperJay 's link to be this: Also a reminder to new discoverers of this thread, spoiler tagging your embedded videos makes the page perform much better.
The original game had some great music, but 2/3/4 with Harry Gregson-Williams as the main composer absolutely blew it away.
Song of Liu Lang. You can hear two slightly different versions of this in two places in MoP, both of which are entirely optional (one's in a side-room as part of the Pandaren newbie zone, one's a once-a-week scripted event in Krasarang): (That's Jim Cummings singing in pseudo-Mandarin, by the way). And, well, if I'm doing WoW songs then Lament of the Highbourne is pretty mandatory I think:
I rather like the Company of Heroes 2 theme. The volume is a little too low compared to all other music ever, but I just love how understated most of the piece is, rather than being all military bombastic pomp. Also the Cognition theme. I must admit I'm a sucker for slow build into chant(?). Not sure what the proper term is.
I do like the Might and Magic VII soundtrack. Was actually on the game CD if I recall correctly, so you could play it as a regular music CD http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4473D21E713C0D59 This one in particular:
My wife says that classic Castlevania tunes like this sound like 80's elevator music, or the kind of tune you'd see Brian Austin Green dancing to in a disco scene on a Beverly Hills 90210 rerun. I held up my finger to offer a protest, and then the words choked in my mouth and I wilted with shame. Ah yes, the harsh, painful light of truth, I recognize you.
Can't remember if I dumped this with the rest of my favourites from River City Ransom but who doesn't dig 8-bit rockabilly?
Noriyuki Asakura is pretty great. That WotS riff has been standard through 4 games, and he still finds new arrangements for it. I have both Wots 1 & 2 soundtracks as well as Tenchu. Good stuff. To contribute:
On that note, it's a damn shame that those soundtracks aren't easily available (Though I think the Tenchu tracks are on itunes or something). I'm still not sure if WotS 3 and 4 ever got a soundtrack release, for that matter.
