Recommend your favorite visual novels here! Please include genre, language, a link to download/buy, and a bit about the game.

I have to thank the LP forum for introducing me to visual novels. My laptop is terrible for gaming, but can handle VN graphics very well. (Also Ren'Py games run natively in Linux, which saves me headaches.) I just wanted to start a recs thread because I've been downloading lots of free VNs (because that's what my wallet can afford right now) and most of them aren't good.

EDIT: See also: Donmai's Gigantic List of Otome Games.

I'll start: Locked-In (mystery, English, free), a game where you have to solve a murder mystery while in a coma. I really love the graphics; they're unusual and do a great job of creating atmosphere.

Now that looks really cool. Never heard of it before.

Here's a recommendation: Cinders. It's a more feminist take on the story of Cinderella. It's got a staggering amount of choice for a VN and it's also utterly gorgeous.

  4. Davian Korran Hatoful Pigeon

Umazes is LP'ing it, but I think Hierofania deserves a mention. It's got a very interesting, unique art style and a hilariously frank and generally atypical protagonist. I have it on a to play list, but it seems to have a lot of potential unless it really screws up at the end.
  5. Jacquelle Hatoful Pigeon

Cinders is amazing and well worth the money.

I also recommend Analogue: A Hate Story (English, Mystery, I'd recommend buying it on Steam but here's the link to the website), for anyone who hasn't been keeping up in its LP thread, and Date Warp which is a brilliant little mystery piece with an engrossing story and a lot of endings. And is in English and can be bought here .

    ETA: added necessary info.

    Free Visual Novels:

    1. Hierofania
    (Fantasy, English)
Being LP'ed by Umazes. I've played it and it is still sitting on my computer. I love it.
This is not a dating game. The story is quite interesting especially if you get to the True End.
    Art is nice and interesting.

    2. The Dreaming
    (Drama and Surreal, English)
Art's not fantastic, but it's okay. This has an interesting story but is a little scary and gruesome. (Not on the level of Corpse Party but scarier than Yandere-chan IMO)
Trying to get all the endings made me want to stab myself in the face.

    3. Summer Found Me
    (Slice of Life, English)
    Also being LP'ed by...someone. Sorry, I don't remember who.
Dating game. Good art and an okay story-line.

    4. Frozen Essence
    (Fantasy, English)
Has been LP'ed more than once.
Dating game with an interesting plot.
Art is passable but is used effectively.

    5. Legend of the Piper Girl
    (Supernatural, English)
Not a dating game. It's made by the same person who did Frozen Essence. Art has improved. (I love seeing visible improvement like this <3 )
Has drama, magic, and music elements. I enjoyed playing it even if a couple of parts annoyed me a little.

    6. (P)lanets
    (Science Fiction I guess, English)
Dating game and has people with magical brain powers.
    Has been LP'ed before.

    7. Little God
    (Supernatural, English)
Not a dating game. Super short. It's supernatural. I don't remember much about it but I still have it on my computer so that must mean something...? Maybe.

    8. Hatoful Boyfriend
(Science Fiction, English or Japanese. Link is for the English version)
(In)Famous dating game. You should have heard of this by now. You can play the demo for free and the demo has a lot of content.
I recommend forking over the, what, five bucks(?) for the full version or checking out Angie Gallant's LP. The Hurtful Boyfriend route/story is amazing.

    9. Knife of the Traitor
    (Fantasy, English)
Dating game...sort of. Nice art and interesting story.

    10. RE: Alistair++
    (Slice of Life, English)
    Dating game with a mystery~

    11. Digital: A Love Story
    (Mystery/Romance, English)
LOTS of reading and made by the same person created Analogue: A Hate Story

    12. Text: A Summer Story
    (Mystery, English)

(Yeah, my descriptions almost all sound the same and are boring. Whatever. I'll change it later.)

    Free Kinetic Novels:
    1. That Cheap And Sacred Thing
    (Science Fiction, English)
Story that has androids and drama. What else do you need?!

Any additional games I find will be put here.
I know this doesn't include everything required in the OP. I'll fix it up, I promise.
  7. Jacquelle Hatoful Pigeon

Can you unreccomend something to balance out the universe? If so, I Unrecommend (P)lanets, because everyone in it is a terrible person and the story is much less interesting than it sets itself up to be.

Juniper's Knot (English, not sure about the genre) is a great free kinetic game and is also available for iOS devices.

I can understand why you would un-recommend it but I think it's pretty okay for a free game.
There is a different set of standards for what you pay for and what you can just casually download&play&delete.

I know we have at least a couple of other members who do moonspeak in here, so I'd be super pumped to see some recommendations on stuff in Japanese. I really have no clue where to start and it seems like the best way to pretend you're practising the language while playing video games. Links are always appreciated because seriously, I'm going off Google here.

Are there any particular review or blog sites that offer good coverage on the genre?
  10. Jacquelle Hatoful Pigeon

This is true, but I still don't think it's worth putting yourself through (P)lanets when there are a multitude of other free VNs out there.
  11. IchigoNeko Already Beat BF's New Expansion

I'm jumping in to recommend the obvious: Fate/Stay Night is wonderful and has a translation patch out.

Also: Sakura Wars: So Long My Love (also Sakura Taisen V) is a game for the PS2 and Wii that is half dating sim and half RPG. You fight demons in mecha with pretty girls in steampunk 1920s America. It is the best thing. The girl in my avatar is the "canon" love interest, Gemini Sunrise.

Galaxy Angel is another game with a translation patch; it's basically Sakura Wars in space.

Katawa Shoujo is quite good as well (albeit 18+; there's lots of story though). I will almost certainly do a horrible job explaining its slightly odd premise, so have a TVTropes link instead. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/VisualNovel/KatawaShoujo?from=Main.KatawaShoujo

Juniper's Knot is awesome. Great value for a free VN.

I highly recommend this one as well.

I guess it depends on what kind of stuff you're interested in. Japanese VNs are quite diverse. You've got otome games (female MC, focused on relationships with male characters), bishoujo games (like otome games but genderswapped), then there are straight-up novels with pictures.
  13. IchigoNeko Already Beat BF's New Expansion

    Ah, speaking of this...

Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni (When the Cicadas Cry) is a straight-up mystery VN; basically a book with sound and pictures. It's very horror-oriented and got translated into English by MangaGamer. There's an anime of it, as well.

Yes, Higurashi is quite good. I'm not sure how beginner-friendly it is from a language standpoint, but I recommend it.

You might already know about it, but in case you don't: The Visual Novel Database is a great way to search for Japanese VNs of all kinds.
  16. Randomletters Already Beat BF's New Expansion

Recommending Morenatsu here to anyone interested. It's a furry adult bara/yaoi BL VN that centers around a guy (default name Hiroyuki Nishimura) who travels back to the village where he spent his childhood for summer break. While there, he falls in love with one of his childhood friends. Four routes are out so far, with the fifth and sixth coming very soon. It's very tastefully done for the most part and has some of the most wonderful interactions I've seen so far in a yaoi game.

    Also, it has Tappei.

    Download it here!

This might be a bit off-topic... But talking about otome games in particular, there's really not a super unified fandom for it, so there aren't any blogs that give super diverse coverage. There are quite a few otome game blogs, but they cover genres and topics that the blogger themselves are interested in. I'm friends with... Almost every English-speaking otome game blogger and mostly we just share news with each other on Twitter/Tumblr. We've been told that the fandom is a bit difficult to enter, especially because English stuff is so sparse, but we're not really sure what to do about it, honestly...

I don't know that enough people are decent with Japanese or even care enough that it would be useful, but would anyone be interested if I started up a topic in this forum specifically about Japanese otome games? I could talk about some lesser-known gems or discuss ones that are coming out soon.

As far as decent visual novels that are available in English, here's three I know of...

    Scheherazade

"Henry and Morgana Keating were archaeologists and adventurers who never came home. Now their daughter intends to follow in their footsteps...

It's 1930, and as the world slides ever deeper into the Great Depression, Scheherazade 'Sadie' Keating sets out on her first year of college - a year of travel, romance, danger and discovery. Together with friends and family, she'll chase her parents' last mystery across five continents, and choose a future for herself along the way."

    Adrift

"Adrift takes place in the far future, a few hundred years from now. Earth is so overpopulated that a large path of humanity now lives in huge cities on the bottom of the sea. One of these communities is Bluetide, currently housing over seven million people. The cities are entirely self-dependent; they create their own energy with tidal power plants, they grow their own food, they recycle everything they cannot produce themselves perfectly.

Very elaborate artificial intelligences take care of the cities, controlling life support, production, safety, even education. The residents of the cities do not have to work for a living; everything is provided for them, and they are free to spend their time however they want. Many are artists and writers, and the AIs encourage them to find their hidden talents.

Of course, any malfunction with the AIs could be devastating to the citizens. This is why there is one safeguard: Each underwater city has a Supervisor, a single human whose only task is to oversee the work of the AIs. In order to keep up with the speed at which the AIs are working, this Supervisor is kept in a constant state of sleep, his subconscious wired into the positronic network that links the AIs.

Adrift is about the question what happens when that Supervisor suddenly loses control."

    Nanolife

"A boy has recently found a great MMORPG in the depths of the internet. Excited, he stays up behind his computer late at night, while a thunderstorm is roaring outside. However, just as he completed his character creation - thunder strikes!

All electricity and thus also his computer shut down at once, leaving him in the dark. Though sad, he has no choice but to wait for now. However, in the game, his character has already begun playing without him..."

I'd be interested, although it would just make me wish I could speak Japanese.

Speaking of non-English VNs, though, I'd be interested if anyone knew of decent VNs in German. My German is terribly rusty, but I've been trying to practice by playing games and can generally understand enough to get by, which makes me feel smart.

What I played of Adrift was great and creative, though I got stuck and kept getting this one Bad End so never quite finished it. I recommend playing through it with a walkthrough if you can.

The Thirteenth Year by the same author is also a good read (though the graphics are serviceable at best), especially if you like Mushishi, Kino's Journey, or just tales in general. It's about a youth travelling the land who is clearly more than they seem.

Thousand Dollar Soul is a flash game that is a very dark, cynical take on going back to the future. I classify it as a visual novel because of the side-sprites.

I love everything Bentosmile has ever done, but if you haven't played Air Pressure yet you really should. It's about a bad codependent relationship (or is it?)
  25. JohnStargazer Already Beat BF's New Expansion

Gosh, this seems like a fantastic opportunity to inform everyone that Yousei, the third part of the psychic murder mystery series some of you might remember from my Let's Plays is now available for pre-order.

And to remind you that I highly recommend and indeed shill for both Jisei and Kansei, the first and second parts, no matter how badly I may have snarked them.

You can get both games for $20 if this code still works.

I played the demo of Jisei and didn't like it enough to buy it, but I read Kansei is supposed to be better?
Randissimo and James Birdsong like this.
  27. JohnStargazer Already Beat BF's New Expansion

I actually quite enjoyed both games. Jisei was a bit slow paced, to be sure, but once I got into the real meat and potatoes of the mystery (unfortunately spoiled and wasted on anyone who reads my LP, shameless self-promotion), it perked up a lot. That said, Kansei is a vast improvement and the mystery is much more intricate and layered, even if they do that thing where you can't get the real answer on your first playthrough which is a bit annoying if you really like solving things (and is much less spoiled by the LP because of it, I might add).
Randissimo and James Birdsong like this.
  28. DreadCop Already Beat BF's New Expansion

As far as paid games go, I think Date Warp was the second-best one I played. It got a little hokey towards the true end, and I wish the main character didn't look 12 years old, but I liked the characters, the dark undertones, and how they managed to make the vaguely Rocky Horror Picture Show premise work with the dimensional/time travel thing.

The best one is Cinders, hands-down. Machiavellian Cinderella ahoy!
  29. tmp Keeper of the Elemental Materials

"Sharin no Kuni" (Wheel Country) is an interesting aberration as far as VNs go, in the sense the protagonist is not an idiot, far from it. The story is pretty gripping as well, and there's english patch for PC version of both games available at TLWiki.

Keep on mind the game has some sexual content. Also, the PC version may be by now difficult to obtain.
  30. Kaneda Already Beat BF's New Expansion

    Location:
    Santiago
I'd recommend anything by Key, aside from the Kanon VN (which while isn't bad in terms of story, has horrific graphics -I mean the eyes, ohmygod- and the sex scenes are not even funny).

The Clannad VN is pretty nice, some routes are clichéd as hell but it's mostly worth a read, specially for the unlockable second part. It's really long though. It has a kinda deficient patch in english, and another in the works by my sweethearts at doki.co. It's about a dismotivated guy who OMG SUDDENLY FRIENDS AND FEELINGS. But it's handled much more tastefully than most of the stories with that premise that float around. I actually prefer the anime (Kyoani ilu) to the VN, but most people think otherwise.
Also, I have to mention this. While it isn't nearly as bad as in Kanon, the eyes are humongous. It's a bit of a turn off, until you manage to get in the story and stop paying attention to them.

There is this "derivate" of Clannad, called Tomoyo After. It follows after the non-canonical Tomoyo route, and was recently translated. I honestly don't know if I enjoyed it as much as I did out of fangirlism or if it's really that good, but... yeah.

As mentioned above, there is Fate/Stay Night. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with a weak heart or stomach. It has a wonderful translation (courtesy of Mirror Moon), a voice patch, an extra images/music/epilogue patch from the PS2 version and I think there is a no H-scene patch which will save you from the awkward hilariousness that is Nasu's (or whoever he coerced into writing them) sex writing. It is much better than the anime, I gotta say, but also much more... crude. It's about... a war lead by maguses (is that a word? yes, that is a word now) who summon heroes from the past (and the present and the future. Maybe.) to fight with them in order to win this game-like battle, and therefore get the Holy Grail which will grant them one wish.

Another one by Nasu, which has a maybe superior story but not-so-stellar writing/graphics: Tsukihime. Don't be mislead by the horrible anime adaptation, it is quite epic and a cult classic. It has a translation too by Mirror Moon where I think you can find links to buy both Tsukihime and Fate, I'm not quite sure. In this VN, you play a kinda weak (pffft) guy that has something special about his eyes; he can see the lines of life... and cut them, which kills it's owner. Of course, such a power would've driven him mad, but this lady gave him awesome glasses that hide them and so he is sane. But now that he is in his last high school year, of course, shit happens.

Now, on to my two all time favourites.

Little Busters!, made by Key too, is pretty much a standard friendship (and baseball. Yes.) story. Except not. It's quite long, having one common route that branches off to the heroines' routes depending on your choices, and after you've completed all of these, you get to play the true route.
    Oh my god.
I can't say much without spoiling so I won't, I'll just say that it's worth having a little patience over the dragging bits. It has an awesome translation patch and the patches for the EX/ME versions (both have extra scenes, but the Ecstasy version has porn and the Memorial Edition doesn't) are in progress.

Finally, there is Ever17, the VN I'd like to Let's Play one day. It's about a group of people that get trapped in an oceanic theme park where... stuff... happens. And it's glorious. It naturally has a lot more plot than that, but EVERYTHING IS A SPOILER GODDAMNIT. It's interesting from the beggining, and while some characters could've used some more characterization, I have no real complaints (well, I could complain about the blind idiot translation, but I honestly kinda forget about it unless there is a blatant typo). If anyone wants this VN, I don't recommend buying it, to be honest. The reason is that it doesn't have a fanmade translation, but a kinda official localization by a company that went broke a while ago, so it isn't being produced in english and unless you buy it second hand, I don't think you'd be able to find it.

So... uh... I'm kinda tired right now. I bet the text above is pretty badly written; my english kinda slips when I'm sleepy. Sorry about that. I'll post more if I remember them.
  31. Charico Magister Mundi Elyscape

It's not an otome game, but 999 for the DS was translated into English a while ago. The basic plot is that the MC is one of nine people trapped on a sinking ship and you have nine hours to escape. So i guess it's more of an escape/mystery game than anything. It has puzzles for most of the rooms you enter, multiple endings and the characters grow on you like particularly determined fungi. Here's a link with a demo of the gameplay and a quick overview of the characters and settings.

There's a sequel to the game out for the 3ds, but apparently it has an entirely different theme from the first so who knows.

Also Hotel Dusk: Room 215 is purely mystery visual novel with a few small puzzles here and there. And Ghost Trick is a wonderful puzzle game, but the story and characters are wonderful.

In retrospect, those recommendations aren't really pure visual novels are they?

How is it so far? I've been debating whether I want to drop the 40 bucks to import it over.
This is making me realize that there really aren't that many visual novels on the DS, in English anyway.

I've heard of Trace Memory form the same company as well. It seems to be just as good as Hotel dusk.

Fate / Stay Night, by TypeMoon.

    Synopsis
In modern-day Fuyuki City, the War for the Holy Grail has begun. 7 Masters, each a chosen magician, command 7 Servants in a battle royale, with the victor claiming the Holy Grail - an artifact that will grant a wish to the Master and Servant who claim it. Though only 14 fighters participate in this struggle, it is indeed worth calling a "war", because each Servant is a hero out of history and myth, summoned to the present day by the Grail to play their part in the fight, and their combined powers - along with the magical might of their Masters - could level Fuyuki.

Emiya Shirou, orphaned as a young boy by a catastrophic fire, then adopted and taught magic by a Emiya Kiritsugu, utterly lacks the skill to be a magician of any kind. Nevertheless, he is drawn into the war for the Holy Grail when he witnesses a part of it being fought on the grounds of his school... and then becomes the 7th Master by somehow summoning as his Servant a powerful - and beautiful - female knight. Unafraid to die but unwilling to kill, Shirou nevertheless steps forward to fight for the Holy Grail and become a hero. Just as he promised Kiritsugu he would.
    -----=====-----

This game sets the "language difficulty" dial to eleventy bazillion but is otherwise a profoundly excellent work of fiction. As mentioned above, there's a translation patch, but if you ride with the moonspeakers, you can get it as a PS2 disc which includes the voice work and EXCLUDES the terrible tacked-on sex scenes. That's how I bought it, so I only know of the awful porn via rumor. It's a very tightly plotted VN, with a great flair for drama and sudden turnabouts. Also, it's worth noting, very gruesome. The PS2 version has no sex but is absolutely positively not family friendly. If you have ever wondered "Who would win in a fight - Hercules or King Arthur?" then this game has you covered.

Eustia the Winged, by August Soft.

    Synopsis
There is only one city left in all the world - Novas Aeter. Long ago, God became enraged by humanity's greed and iniquity and sent a flood of boiling chaos to wipe out all of mankind. However, one faithful woman, the Saint Irene, prayed for God to forgive humanity. God took pity on Irene's desperate prayers, and granted her the power to lift her homeland, Novas Aeter, into the sky, safe from the corruption that destroyed every other nation and left the world's surface a seething hell. Ever since, the city has floated in the air, kept by the prayers of the Saint - one girl from each generation who dedicates herself to God and prays without ceasing, for should she ever stop, God's wrath would strike again.

As it did 10 years ago, in the tragedy called the Gran Fault. With a horrifying rumble, a section of the city fell from the sky, taking countless citizens with it - young and old, innocent and guilty, man and woman. Caim's brother and mother were among them. He cheered among a crowd of thousands when the Saint who failed in her prayers was executed, thrown off the edge of Novas Aeter to pay for her sins.

Along with the section that fell entirely, another great region of the city plunged downwards, now separated from the rest by a high cliff. Cut off from food, water, and trade until some path could be cut in the cliff, what had once been a normal neighborhood became a slum... and then a ghetto, ruled by the mafia, stalked by famine, and gripped by a fatal plague. Caim escaped slavery as a gigolo only by being murderous enough in his abortive dash for freedom that the mafia boss chose him to instead be an assassin. After years of slitting throats for pay, Caim now works as hired muscle and bodyguard - until he finds a young woman named Eustia. Kidnapped by the mafia to be sold as a prostitute, then brutally attacked and apparently killed by a vicious monster, she somehow survives... in the midst of an unearthly purple light, the same light that presaged the Gran Fault. On her back are the tiny stubs of wings, the first symptom of the incurable, fatal plague.

Defenseless, impoverished, infected, and alone, Eustia nonetheless clings to the one possession she has that Caim does not: Hope.
    -----=====-----

This game starts out with the main character, Caim, dragging a man back to a brothel so he can be punished for trying to run off with one of the prostitutes. The brothel's muscle tells Caim that they're going to cut off the guy's fingers one by one, then kill him and throw his body off the city. Meanwhile, some other young men have gone to the prostitute in question to "teach her a lesson" for running off. Caim, as a professional assassin, is not particularly bothered by this information. What I'm saying is that this game might be just a wee bit dark. Nevertheless, the VN's developer, August Soft, has a reputation for making fairly happy-go-lucky games; apparently they decided to make a game with a very grim setting as a way of stretching their writing abilities, and the experiment was successful. Eustia the Winged is dark but with enough leavening to make it still enjoyable.

    Baldr Sky, by GIGA.

    Synopsis
In the future, cyberspace has been made practical - a virtual world of sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch, that can be indistinguishable from reality. Made possible by the creation of true Artificial Intelligence and the advent of nanomachines, the virtual world has become a hub of trade, culture - and warfare, because control of the virtual world grants control of the electronics and devices on which all modern life depends. To fight in the virtual world, mankind has crafted a virtual weapon, the "simulacrum", a giant robot that acts as an extension of the pilot's body.

Kadokura Kou is a carefree student who dreams of one day having a simulacrum of his own. Or at least, he thought he was. Waking up on a cyberspace battlefield, inches from a gruesome death, Kou realizes that his days as a student and a civilian are long gone - along with his memories of everything that has happened to him from his junior year of high school until now. Rendered an amnesiac by a battlefield accident, Lieutenant Kadokura Kou, cyberspace hacker and veteran soldier, struggles to discover what he had, what he lost... and what unspeakable tragedy could have compelled him to follow in his hated father's footsteps and become a bloody-handed mercenary.
    -----=====-----

Originally Baldr Sky was supposed to be one game, but it got split up into two volumes, each containing half of the whole story - "Baldr Sky Dive 1" and "Baldr Sky Dive 2". It's worth buying twice, which is why I'm doing an LP of it over in the LP forum. Unusually, Baldr Sky isn't just a visual novel - it also contains a shockingly good button-mashing action game with a lot of depth and unusual mechanics. It's actually the latest entry in a long-running series of "Baldr $SOMETHING" games that feature a dystopian cybernetic future and giant robots punching other giant robots. It's densely plotted with a lot of mysteries and a surprisingly deep view on the question of human nature and the meaning of artificial intelligence. It's also the only game I've ever seen that makes the main character an amnesiac and then actually writes the results well enough to make it more than a lazy plot device.

    Sinsemilla's Dusk, by Applique.

    Synopsis
Once upon a time, long long ago... all fairy tales begin the same way. A tale told in the mountains of Japan continues like this: One of heaven's nymphs once alighted to the earth, bathing herself in the waters of a fathomless lake. A man from the local village, of good heart but poor, with no prospects for a wife or family, came upon her as she was bathing. Struck by her beauty, the villager stole the vestment that granted her the power of flight, and when the nymph was distraught that she could not return home, suggested that she come back to the village with him. They became husband and wife, then father and mother, living happily - until the day she found her stolen vestment where it was hidden. Outraged, the nymph left the village and returned to heaven forever.

Kousuke had always thought the fairy tale bizarre. The villager of good heart - who committed theft without a second thought. The loving wife and mother - who threw everything away and abandoned husband and child to their fate. But perhaps that's the way things work in myth and legend. A college student with a minor in Japanese folklore, Kousuke is visiting his aunt's house, far out in the countryside, for a peaceful summer. Little does Kousuke reckon that he will find there a living legend, in the form of a nightmarish creature that nearly kills him, a strange blue stone that is all that remains of its body afterwards, and an ageless, silver-haired woman who seems to know more than Kousuke could ever guess.
    -----=====-----

Unlike the previous 3 grimdark gruesomekill murdertacular games, this is actually a pretty cheerful visual novel most of the time... although there are some bad endings where Kousuke dies. By being eaten alive by savage wild animals. While his loved ones watch in horror, spatters of Kousuke's blood dripping down their faces. So, you know, mostly cheerful. It has fabulously evocative music, an atmospheric setting in the country, and a fairly interesting mystery structure. Each possible route to the end gives you a little more information about what's actually going on in those country mountains. It's also notable for having one of the best-written and funniest brother-sister relations I've seen in some time, although with the important exception and warning that yes, Kousuke can potentially romance his sister. So, you know, mostly a well-written brother-sister relation.

So are you guys only interested in hearing about free VN? Because I wanted to spam EVER 17 (i.e. "IT'S THE BEST GAME EVER PLAY IT PLAY IT NOW OR I WILL CUT YOU"). I dunno if it's even for sale anymore, since the company died. And I mostly play 18+ games. Some of them are pretty good too, tho, but not free.
So I'm basically useless. I just can't get into most free VN, since anything less then 30 hours isn't long enough for me. Never mind then~ /crawls away

Ever17 is good, but I liked Remember11 better even though the ending was more open/incomplete. Remember11 was much more tense, mindscrew, and had Bad End lurking around every corner.

Which is way I loved Ever 17. Because spoilers, apparently. Also I loved the seiyuus. KYAAAA YU ASAKAWA YOU'RE SO TSUN <3333
I had her as my system voice for the longest time, only the Starry Sky boys pushed her out (and that's really not a fair competition, since they were selected specifically for their appeal to crazy otaku chicks).

Jack, honey, don't you think you should spoiler some of that? Y-you know, since this is a recommendations thread. For people who haven't read this stuff.

Also I agree. YU ASAKAWA I LOVE YOU SO MUCH she sounded much better on Ever17 as Tsugumi than in Fate/Stay Night as Rider.
I got Remember11 a while ago, but got distracted a few moments after starting. Should I get it again and play it through? Should I get a walkthrough, if so? Is it a game to play at night if I'm scared shitless with jumpscares and spiders and scary faces? Does it have any delicious romance?
