You have to place the nipples on the picture. It's one of the trickier captchas, because you have to recognize that his are the least telegenic of the choices.
That's, uh, really difficult. edit: Oh I see the demo isn't the one you've got on here, that's why everyone is joking about the pictures. The one on log in is a sort problem where you have three categories and a bunch of grainy ass images.
Kidding aside Lum, that keycaptcha is pretty unintuitive. Dragging and dropping sucks on touchscreen, for example, so if someone was browsing via an iPad they'd be fucked at your captcha. May I suggest picatcha or, if you're going to do one that does require click and drag, areyouahuman
Good to know. I still think it's too many clicks and too much precision needed. It actually took me about 15 seconds to solve a puzzle as a test, versus about 5 seconds for the two I linked.
It is, but there's a delicate balance between "Make it difficult for spambots to register" and "Make it difficult for ANYONE to register."
There is quite a bit of margin of error, you don;'t have to perfectly align the images, just enough so that it's obvious you're actually aware of what the picture is.
Perhaps-overkill suggestion: Lum, have you considered temporarily toggling (checking; yep, still makes me giggle) all accounts that have registered, but haven't posted any? It seems that most spambots register, then sit around idle for a couple weeks before suddenly vomiting porn or herbal cialis or herbal porn or onto the place. Hopefully the new captcha system will filter out the new ones, but there's obviously a bunch (or, you know, at least several) still in the system, waiting to strike. I am of course assuming here that most of the accounts that register and don't post for awhile are spammers, and there are comparatively few actual people who'd be temporarily inconvenienced when they're done lurking.
IMHO, I think we kinda have to do something a little more drastic. I dislike the normal gibberish spambots, but one today posted a huge number of porn pictures in the gaming thread. That kind of stuff will get the site locked down on many corporate networks and for those of us who still can surf at work this becomes a site we don't dare visit because we can't have that popping up on our PCs.
Maybe make it so that you can only post pictures or links after you have received at least 1 like. Make the spambots entertain us before spamming.
That Other Place had a 20-post limit before you could do pictures/links. I vote for something similar.
Would that promote precious spam posts of FINARLY I DID IT!!! immediately prior to banning? If so, I approve!
Every new member should have to fight other new members to the death before they can post a message. That would assure us that they were human and truly dedicated to being members of the community.
Doesn't that just mean the spambot will spam more? I don't see how you can break a like limit as a spambot without creating more accounts just for that or figuring out how to tag Elyscape.
Since there really weren't many problems with spam over in That Other Place, I'm assuming the solution worked. If I missed a bunch of them, then I'm wrong, but I think it worked.
I can no longer start a thread, otherwise I'd have started a thread about not being able to start a thread. What's going on? Where I used to have a nice "Start New Thread" button, now I have this:
This should be fixed... the system made everyone a New User temporarily and then promoted all the current ones. You should be able to post threads now. This was done to limit spammers (as seen in the spam thread )
Well, you couldn't before but you can now (I found out the toggle blocking users and new users both and tested - now correctly new users cannot post new threads but veteran users can)
Haha, funny timing is funny. I just finished like a half hour blurb writing up that Reinventing the Republican Party thread and went to post and it was like ACCESS DENIED MOTHERFUCKER HO HO HO and I crapped myself thinking I'd lose it. Thankfully I was able to copy the post and then redo it moments later.
Could one just limit new users to posting in a single trash forum; under the assumption that spambots would blindly post there and be easily identified without disrupting the rest of the forum?
That'd be kind of discouraging for new real users, wouldn't it? The system seems pretty good now with the new Captcha and such.
If it's that much of a concern at work, you should probably enable the forum built in NSFW options to disable automatic display of inline images and attachments. The forum software is pretty neat, you can set up the NSFW settings to be computer specific, so you can browse like normal from home. No matter what Lum does, the occasional NSFW pic will get through. Either because of a spam bot or some normal forum member having a flame out (or just bad judgement *cough*anybody but Kerzain*cough*), it is inevitable.
Don't single me out, I haven't used bad judgement for pics. None of the pictures I've posted have been sexually explicit or NSFW in any form. I'm not psychic and couldn't predict Lum would lose his shit over something so dumb. If anything he should have told the people reporting the image to stop wasting his time. I didn't make an issue of it then, and I really don't want to have it all dragged out again just because someone wants to make the mistake of using me as an example of bad judgement for pics posted.
haha holy shit dude. I didn't even tag you. I'll edit it to make you happy though :p Regardless it was a joke :)
Sorry, I missed the joke, I'm being a big baby today because I'm sick. I try not to care when people think I'm a pile of shit, I just want to make sure they're not thinking it for the wrong reasons.
