Spacetrawler is not one I've seen mentioned. I'll assume everyone already knows about Guilded Age and The Abominable Charles Christopher.
It's KILLING me to have to read the Dora/Tai thing in Questionable Content one. freaking. comic. at. a. time. I want the whole story RIGHT NOW. (This is obviously a sign of good storytelling, but waiting for updates is making me pull my hair out.)
I've been enjoying the "Rainy Day" self-contained story in Nerf Now. The premise of the strip is that it takes characters from Team Fortress 2 (or other characters based on those classes) and, well, does stuff with them. I like this Rainy Day arc because he's doing such a good job of telling a story with no dialog. Is good comic making.
And unfortunately, it was apparently so poorly received that the artist has vowed to never do another arc. :/
That is sad, I thought it was entertaining. Maybe it's there isn't room in this world for TF / D&D crossovers?
It's really too bad, because he's good at it. There are so many little touches in that arc that I love. The Engie luring the Red team in with food then using the sentry gun to force them to play. The Medic wanting to play a barbarian instead of a cleric. The "Engie Nerd" speech bubble. The "Rocks fall, everybody dies" speech bubble. The way the enchantress is the personification of the dungeon master, right down to the wrench staff and the little witch hat perched on top of her hard hat. The fact that the treasure at the end of the dungeon is a hat.
It's more that, whenever he does an arc, he stops getting new readers for the duration of the arc. New readers like one-shots, I guess.
Started working my way through the TF2 arc and I like that there is a comic which summarises the entire MOBA genre:
I was mildly amused (and oddly hungry) until the last line. That does kill, even though rationally, it shouldn't.
Questionable Content and Girls With Slingshots seem so similar that plagiarism might be in play. Same characters. Same stories. Is GWS ripping off QC or is it the other way around?
On one hand, QC started three years earlier than GWS. On the other hand, QC is terrible so no one should ever want to rip it off. On the third hand, I don't read either. On a mysterious fourth hand, GWS is certainly a lot nicer to look at than QC.
Fuck me, every time I see a link to that site I spend nearly an hour just going through all those comics again. I've done that like 10 times now and it's still hilarious. And I don't know how I completely spaced out on that fact that your avatar is the Commander Crisp strip.
The sogs are too many! It really takes a genius to make up that fantasy. It takes another genius to do such a great job drawing Captain Crisp in the valorous throes of his dying moment.
I never understood why NSFW was always in the same sentance as Oglaf. Well, having just scanned the last few weeks I now know.
FYI, i think those are all NSFW links. (The I referring to any hapless reader, not dermot, I think he knows)
