Am I allowed to post music from video games if that's where the music is coming from? :< Either way, I'm listening to a mix of Caravan Palace and the soundtrack for Rule of Rose. I'm in a mood and can't get out.
I like your taste in music, Mul. I may also have to look into finding an LP of Rule of Rose, as Wiki-searching it was rather interesting. So, umm... game music. I listen to many other types of music, but I'm gonna post some game stuff fer now. Spoiler'd with song titles for easier page loading. And, to break up the game music... This may have been posted before, but I'm not going through 15 pages to check: What can I say, I'm a sucker for a well-played shamisen. Also, let it never be said that my music tastes aren't eclectic as all hell.
So, I figure this might be the right thread for this since the people hanging out here probably know something about music. My dad's birthday is coming up and I remembered seeing something about new material of Jimi Hendrix being released. I can't find it anywhere because I'm an idiot and suck at searching things. Is there some new posthumous release or am I imagining things?

A friend of mine (and fellow comrade in Speedo's Army) from Kzoo has been working with a new band on a new record for the past few months. Tonight we Ride b/w In Cold Blood (bandcamp link) is the first step towards putting the full length out. It was recorded with Jim Diamond and the influences and overtones should be familiar to anyone posting in either this or (especially) the Metal Thread. I don't much care for pimping other people's records, but Chad's one of the good guys and, moreover, this is a damn fine single. Hope anyone who listens enjoys!
If you were listening to it and it was music, then yes. Also, Caravan Palace is great. For a couple weeks earlier this year I could not get in the car with my three-year-old without him demanding to listen to 'the robot song', by which he meant this:
I've been on a Paul Weller kick for the past week. For some reason I always forget about him, and then I circle back and am amazed (though I shouldn't be, at this point) at what an absolutely terrific album is Wild Wood. And the title track is, to my mind, simply a perfect song. It's one of those "drop everything you're doing and listen" songs, for me, when it pops up on my playlist. That slow burn, that restrained intensity--I could (and have!) listen to it over and over.
Well the reason I couldn't find it is because I was looking for 'new material 2012' and it comes out in 2013 ;_;. Now I have to think of something better...
A white guy doing a didactic issue rap followed by a couple of cloying pseudo-soul hip hop numbers? On paper I HATE this, and yet, and yet, I watched the whole thing and had a smile on my face at the end. http://www.npr.org/event/music/166256822/macklemore-ryan-lewis-tiny-desk-concert?autoplay=true
Fuck yeah, Frank Zappa's whole collection is finally up on Spotify, at least in the US. Think I'll start with Freak Out!
Have you ever had one of those moments when you're doing something, maybe something tedious, and suddenly what pops into your head for no good goddamn reason is, "Holy shitsnacks, _________________ is a fucking awesome song!", and then you go to Itunes and buy that song? "Wichita Lineman," Glen Campbell's classic version, 2008 remix, $1.29 and worth every penny. Few pop songs have had chord progressions more interesting than that one. Jimmy Webb is a genius. God yes, I'm old. This song came out when I was 3.
I can't figure out how to embed videos on here with the new youtube layout? Previously I'd use the share button and take the long link, but that option seems to have disappeared when they changed the Youtube appearance. Now, none of the links I can find work with the BrokenForum video button thingy.
Will I get kicked out if I admit that I've been listening to Taylor Swift's new album a lot? I'm glad I'm old enough that I don't have to pretend to hate pop music anymore.
EDIT: Jesus tapdancing Christ this post requires some kind of exorcism. Using HTML-like syntax and code snippets is NOT going over well with Xenforo. Yeah, it's kind of an issue now that the Long Link checkbox was removed in the Great Beshittening of YouTube. You can get around it in a couple ways. The easiest is probably to copy the URL out of your browser's address field and remove everything after the "watch?v=ADFdf_3759" string. Or, you can copy the shortened URL from the share field and modify it. This is the kind of URL that BrokenForum wants: Code (text): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLdm1yuoU_Q And this is what YouTube's share button gives you now Code (text): http://youtu.be/FLdm1yuoU_Q So you can add the www. and the watch?v= to make the shortened URL into a version that will work on BF's media embedder.
Aha! You may not even have to edit the URL copied out of the address bar. The BF embedder appears to be smart enough clean that up all by itself. Go go BrokenForum!
I, too, finally got around to the new Swans. Holy shit indeed. I've always been more of a fan of the early, punishing Swans than the later incarnation, but this is just.... mesmerizing. Goddamn. It's like the perfect antidote to Christmas.
I was listening to this in the car, and thought Speak With Bread might like it, because she digs Irish ceili music. It's my second-favorite Elvis cover, and it's from my favorite 1980s teen movie (Some Kind of Wonderful).
I just came here to post the Macklemore "Thrift Shop" video and it looks like you almost beat me. This is the catchiest fucking song I've heard in a while.
It's why I always prefered the 'old' version of Dog Days: I'm able to withstand those fucking clowns for it man.
