Where we give new meaning to "forever alone" - Let's Play Lone Survivor!

Well I can't just leave you out there. I'm surprised you haven't been caught by Jellies already!

I know you just ate, but you still look a bit starved. If I just open another tin of food...

It actually worked! I can't believe it! Look at you, scarfing it down like you didn't just eat.

Will you be my cat forever? I'll even give you a name! Although I really should have done that sooner...

You can be my Sleepy cat! Like from the comics. And me... I'm just the guy who takes care of you.

That's all you need to worry about, eh, Sleepy? No more dodging Jellies and Potbellies for you!

Heh. I'm so lucky to have you, Sleepy.

Don't worry, Sleepy, I'll come back. I always did, didn't I? Just relax and play, Sleepy.

I might have made one friend, but I just said good-bye to another. I don't intend to lose another today.

There just aren't enough of us left for that.

Hank looks worse than he did a few days ago. He doesn't even recognize me after letting me into his shelter.

Damnit, Hank. The pills don't help you at all! I rummage in my pack: blue pills, red pills, green pills...health tonics?

I've got some medicine here, Hank. Maybe this will help?

Despite my pleas, Hank insists on repaying me with ammo. I can't muster up the will to argue. He's just so sick...

I don't know if the health tonic helped. He looks as pallid as before. He still can't even look at the light.

Hang in there, Hank. We're all in this together, right?
  4. Ozzo Hatoful Pigeon

Loathe as I am to leave Hank, I have to. All I can do is hope the health tonic works. So I hope and hope and hope.

I still haven't explored the marked place on my map. I still don't know who marked it for me, or why.

The back door of the arcade opens to the section of North Street beyond the rubble. I find the junction to the marked location easily.

Despite the lack of monsters, I feel more ill at ease here than anywhere else. Even the buildings feel out of place.

At least, of the buildings that remain. Most of these buildings further down lie in ruins. More rubble than whole.

Was this done by an explosion? It looks like a battle took place here.

The apartment's damage doesn't even compare. Not even rubble remains here. Just utter devastation.

Something is creeping me out. Is this the work of the survivors? Not even the Behemoth could have caused this.

More so than in any other part of the city, I feel alone.

West Street ends, unsurprisingly, in a pile of rubble. I'm surprised wreckage even remains.

The rear end of a bus greets me, its back door open. Did the passengers escape? Where are they?

The bus survived relatively intact. For better or worse, I don't see any trace of the driver or the passengers. Not even an abandoned handbag.

Come to think of it, I've only seen the one body. Did the outbreak infect everyone? With Hank sick and Mister Director gone...

...am I really the only one left?

No, don't think about that. The Director promised to radio when he reaches safety. Just keep an ear out.

For now, the task at hand. The bus's side door opens past the rubble, but I have to power the bus to open it.

It takes a few moments, but I manage to hook up the car battery to the bus. I've got the door open.

But West Street gives me the creeps. I just want to huddle up with Sleepy. Exploring the marked location can wait.

    Being alone can wait.
  6. Ozzo Hatoful Pigeon

In the morning, I waste more time than I should cooking all my canned food. Waste gas, too.

I don't care. I hate every moment I spend on West Street. The entire street reeks of death.

But all too soon, I pet Sleepy and tell him good-bye.

The further I proceed down West Street, the less remains. At the end, I can only see fumes.

Is this really the end of the road? What was I expecting to find?

    I don't even know. I don't even know what I was --

Nothing's left on West Street. Where is the light coming from?

And again, brighter this time. Is my mind playing tricks on me? What dreams will I have now?

Is this the third time? Where are you, white-faced man? Show yourself!

    Oh fuck.
  7. Ozzo Hatoful Pigeon

Wake up! You're dreaming. You must be dreaming. Wake up, damnit, wake up!

Oh my god. It's all over this time. I know it is.

Each of its scythe-like arms extends longer than my entire body. I'm dreaming. I must be dreaming.

I watch the monster rear back. I hear its unearthly keening scream. I smell the rancid fumes.

    I can't be dreaming.

    Run, you idiot, run!

I'm fucked. I'm completely fucked. I'm completely fucking finished.

    I'm not dreaming.
  8. Ozzo Hatoful Pigeon

    This is it.

The past two weeks I've desperately tried to escape the city. The fitful dreams. The Director helping me. Hank helping me.

    This is how it ends.

    No.

I didn't spend two weeks in never-ending hell to die like this. I didn't spend two weeks breaking down to die like this.

I sure as hell didn't desperately seek out answers to die at the end of some monster's claw.

I didn't fucking come here to die!

I came here to survive, damn you! I came here to survive!

I'm suddenly aware of the sound of my gun. Of only my gun. The unearthly wails long-since ceased.

    I lower my gun.

The monster... I can see it retreat! I watch the monster obliterate a metal fence in its path. I can proceed! More importantly, I've survived!

I survived! I can't believe it. I'm going to escape the city! The Director --

    The Director?

    Mister Director?

    No, goddamn it! No!
  9. Ozzo Hatoful Pigeon

No, no, no, no. That can't be The Director. That can't be Mister Director.

Mister Director made his escape out of the city, right? He escaped, right?

Who did this to you? What can I do? Tell me, please!

You've lost so much blood. How can I stop the bleeding? What can I use to stop the bleeding?

Stop saying that. You're not finished. You're not gonna die on me! We'll go back to the apartment and you can rest.

The blood's soaking your trenchcoat. How do I stop the bleeding? There must be a way to stop the bleeding!

    It... It... It's not fair!

Why did it have to be you? You were my friend! You helped me out so much. You didn't do anything wrong!

What do you mean, keep my chin up? Stop saying that!

Wait, how do you know about her? What does the hospital have to do with this? What do you mean you miss her, too?

Hey! Stay with me! Mister Director, stay with me now. Don't look away now. Keep your eyes on me.

    Mister Director?

    Mister Director!
  10. Ozzo Hatoful Pigeon

  11. Ozzo Hatoful Pigeon

He's dead, Sleepy. He's dead. The Director is dead.

There's no one alive except Hank. And he's half-gone, anyway.

I know I didn't kill him but... I dunno why but... I can't help but feel I'm responsible in some way.

I made the tall creature go away, but was it me that made it appear?

Sleepy, I have to go out and end this. I should have gone to the hospital from the start. Instead of trying to escape the city.

Well, he paid the price for it. And maybe, like him, I won't come back.

    So this is good-bye, Sleepy.

    I know, Sleepy.

    I know.
  12. Ozzo Hatoful Pigeon

I have the handwritten note from The Director. It has five scrawled numbers. It even has a smudge of his blood.

I can't rot in my apartment. I have everything I need. I need to enter the hospital.

With The Director's code, the door unlocks easily. I don't know how the keypad still runs. I'm past caring.

Whatever's waiting for me in there... Well, it's gotta be what I'm looking for.

My steps echo in the hallway. Just my steps. Save for a clipboard leaning against the wall, nothing else stands out.

Wait, why does this clipboard have my name on it? I was never a patient here...

    ...was I?

I don't recall ever being enrolled here as a patient. But then why does the hospital seem so familiar?

It doesn't matter. The clipboard says it's the room at the end. That's where I'm headed.

That doesn't stop me from trying all the other doors: locked. Only the room at the end hangs wide open.

    Waiting.
  13. Ozzo Hatoful Pigeon

This must be the room on the register. My room?

Now's not the time to dwell on that. The answers will all be here. I know it.

The entire room could fit inside Hank's shelter. It feels more like a cell than a ro --

    Hey, wait!

Damn. I can't get it open. I'm trapped. I bang my fists against the door.

    It's no use.

What did I hope to find here? The answers to which questions? Why I couldn't remember?

Who is she? Who is he?

Is this what I've been working toward for two weeks?

I'm no closer to finding the answers. All I feel is the familiarity of the room, and I don't know why.

A blue pill rests atop the bedside drawer -- my bedside drawer. My blue pill. Like the kind I traded to Hank.

Like the kind the old man said to take to see him again.

The bed pushes back against me, hard and unyielding. But it's been a long day. I'm too far gone to care.

The old man will have answers for me. When I next see him.

But until then, I'm just gonna have a lie down. Just for a little... while...
  14. Ozzo Hatoful Pigeon

    Curtain call.

These blue curtains. I could almost identify them by touch. I've been here too often.

I'm definitely dreaming now. What's waiting for me this time?

    You!

Somehow, I knew I'd find you here... Like you'd said in another dream. Take the blue pill.

I came here for answers. I know you have them. It's time to start talking! Who are you?

Stop laughing like that! Stop copying me. Stop repeating what I say! Stop mocking me!

Fuck you, you sick old man! I came here for answers. Stop it now, damnit, or I swear to god, I'll...!

Shut up! Leave me alone! Stop repeating me. Stop repeating everything I say!

Stop saying "Shut up!" Stop it. Stop it. Stop it, stop it, stop it, stop it!

Alright, you fucking old man, I'll make you shut up. ONCE AND FOR ALL!

How... How are you still standing? Why aren't you dead?

I shot you, old man! I fucking shot you. I saw the blood. I see the blood on your shirt!

What do you mean, haven't I learnt anything yet? You sound like the white-faced man!

Damn it, old man! I came to you for answers, not more questions! If I knew, then I wouldn't --

    Hey, stop --

Another of your damn light tricks. I know I'm dreaming this time. Stop messing with the dream-world.

    Stop messing with my head!

Damnit, old man! Stop fucking with me! Stop playing games with --

    -- my head. My head.

No. No. No no no no no no.

...they never see the man leave.

Wasn't I in the hospital? Did I dream that too? Nothing makes much sense anymore.

Didn't I dream about a shooting? Am I dead? Is this what dying feels like?

    ...you

    I found you.

So this is where it ends...

I'd rather be here than anywhere else. The city looks so far away from here. I've almost forgotten what it feels like to get away.

Is something bothering you? You seem to have something on your mind.

And that, Broken Forumers, concludes my Let's Play of Lone Survivor. I'm sorry I couldn't deliver a true forever alone ending.

But I did deliver an ending: the blue ending. It's my true end, but it doesn't have to be yours. The game offers more.

If you're interested in the game, now's a fantastic time to pick it up. Lone Survivor is $4.99 (50% off) on Steam until January 6th.

It's been a pleasure LPing this for you all and I thank everyone for bearing with me so far. But now it's your turn as...

Actually, I'd like to try something different. I won't be covering the other endings here, but I do hope people will play this game. It's one of the best I've played this year.

Mitchi originally gifted me Lone Survivor. Without her, I probably wouldn't have ever LPed this game. So now that I've experienced it, I want to pass it like Mitchi did to me.

I'm going to give away a free Steam copy of Lone Survivor to one person selected at random. If you're interested, post below with the word "DRACO" bolded in caps, like so:

    DRACO.

I'll give a warning before closing the entering so anyone who's interested can join. Good luck, everyone.

Please, give this game a try. It's cheap, and it's the best Silent Hill game you're likely to find, maybe the best since Silent Hill 2. Even with Ozzo's fantastic written contributions, screenshots just cannot do justice to the atmosphere and mounting dread this game instills. It's wonderful, and as an aficionado of horror and horror games, I give it my wholehearted recommendation.
