To be fair, the bro crowd that slaloms from genre to genre making it unpleasant to admit you like it is pretty annoying.
This thread in a nutshell: Hey I like these song. (insert youtubes) WHY DO YOU LIKE DUBSTEP IT'S SO BAD This is another good song (insert youtube) OH MY GOD SKRILLEX IS FOR FIST PUMPING BROS that's a pretty good song, how about these. (insert more youtubes) WHY ISN'T ANYONE LISTENING TO ME STOP LISTENING TO BROSTEP
I'm not really into Skrillex or similar stuff, but you know what's weird? I never had the urge to come in here and tell you guys that, though I realize that it's really important to everyone. I do like older Burial and the like, but I don't know where that falls on the dubstep spectrum. I may have posted this before?
To cap off the topic of muddled genres and nitpicking what a particular electronic sound is called...
I was going to contribute to this thread but it already has Beardyman. The same one I was going to link even. /fistshake
If it prominently features washing machine sounds, it's dubstep. If it doesn't, it's techno of some sort. Is that trance? Is that what the kids call it? No? That Home music? Well...shut up. Stupid kids.
Hello Little Guy, Its the sweetie man coming. I thought it was Chitty Chitty Bang Bang for a long time.
GRiZ's album dropped a week ago and I totally forgot to update you guys about it. It's not all dubstep, but there are a few dubstep songs (By his own admission), but its been classified overall as Electro-funk. You decide! http://soundcloud.com/griz/sets/griz-mad-liberation/ Also the album is free, and excellent.
Ohhh, man. The Counterpoint Festival put on by the Lollapalooza organizers is in 2 weeks in Atlanta. Do I dare just go solo as no one will go? 3 days of Dubstep Heaven.
Muse? In a thread about Dubstep? It's more likely than you think: edit to add: While I'm not necessarily a fan of dubstep, I am not against other artists using it to try and expand their depth and breadth of musical influences. It also helps that this Muse track is pretty damn good, too. :)
Remember when Jewel announced she was done being relevant by doing a dance album? Yeah, it's kinda like that.
Some may find this interesting: So the guy who did the awesome movie clips to dubstep, Khameleon808, has evidently caught the eye of a bunch of folks and is getting work. I had seen a couple of vague updates leading me to believe that he was going to be somehow working on some cool stuff and then I find this: I think he has gotten gigs doing stuff for each of these shows. Pretty cool.
Never replied to this, but yeah, I love Skrillex, I was more or less tongue-in-cheek trolling there. Wouldn't've suggested him if I didn't like him. On a somewhat unrelated note, how did I manage to overlook Nero up to this point?
Evidently trap music has been created so that Brostep people have something to disparage. I like some of it.
Also, Nero is awesome. That was my first Dubstep purchase after someone at Qt3 suggested them. This one is my favorite:
A significant portion of that was unlistenable due to how fast he was going. He's good, but there's apparently an upper limit until it's just annoying.
Little bit of filth, test your bass: My favorite track of the past month: Camo and Krooked - Run Riot
I love this. Bonus points for what I think is a Phil Anselmo sample https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=ouyC28ffPjQ Skism: Experts Couldn't get the link to embed
I think you might be right about that that having a Phil Anselmo sample. Impossible to tell from which song, but I think it's definitely off of either Far Beyond Driven or Vulgar Display of Power.
