WHY IS THERE NO DRUNK THREAD

HURF DURF! So I would not say that I drank too much... I drank too much sour ale due to a Lost Abbey night at a local bar... So I drank too much with a qualifier and this is worse, since a sour coats your mouth as if you've puked already! I BLAME YOU ALL AND YOU ARE ALL THE WORST!

    Dinner tonight was:
    • 1 slice reduced fat cheddar cheese
    • 1 slice toast
    • 1 very small salad leftovers
    • 1 bottle Samuel Adams Winter Lager
    • Entirely too much (read: not nearly enough) alcoholic eggnog
Somewhat uncharacteristically, I made a lot of typos while writing this post. This is weird considering that I have, on previous occasions, had more to drink and retained superior typing skills.

I think my college friends would be quite embarrassed to realize I've reached the point where one beer will get me pretty buzzed.

I'm actually afraid to buy hard liquor now.

I find a few lines of La Marseillaise usually works.

    (I actually really like vermouth.)

Heading out tonight to get drunk with a bunch of roller derby girls.

    Should be interesting.

I'd totally roller derby just for the drinking.

No getting drunk with hot roller derby girls for me tonight. I just checked when my papers are all due. And the answer is really fucking soon. Fuck me, time for a night writing a paper on the history of Accounting in Canada. Boring enough to lead one to get shit-faced!
  9. U.S. Millie Elitist Negative Nancy

Google Roller Derby team names and see if you can sneak them into the essay.

If you've already started drinking because of the essay there's a chance you might follow my advice!

I find myself stuck in on a Saturday evening cooking tomorrow's dinner (big huge batch of meat sauce for a big ol' family dinner). I've thus far had a half a glass of red wine (gotta get in the Italian cooking mood) and a martini. I've got a fresh bottle of Bulleit Rye and a six pack of Southern Tier's brand new 2X Mas holiday ale. What can possibly go wrong?!?

The sad part is, I don't even drink. And when I do its typically a single beer, and never enough to get so damned sloshed for me to get the posting drunk achievement.

I drank Cap'n and that stuff for a while. Spiced rum plus just about any pop or juice is delicious. The Kraken just takes it to a whole new level.

Bulleit is so delicious. So, so, so delicious. I've had an unfortunately difficult time drinking it ever since I was at a party many years back and I was holding a single-in-a-double shot of Bulleit and some asshole had a single shot of Ciroc he didn't want so he poured it into the empty upper half of my double shot and made me the worst Night and Day ever. (The mispronunciation of Bulleit also provides unending amounts of comedy for bored liquor store employees.)

Just to be clear Bryce this is Bulleit Rye, not bourbon. And after three old fashioneds, I am a fan. Speaking of, here's my current Ol' Fashioned recipe:

    - Start with an ol' fashioned glass.
    - Drop in 1/2 tsp sugar, then dash in three bits of bitters. Splash in some water too, while you're at it.
    - Muddle that shit with a muddler.
    - Then I like to swirl the resulting muddle around in the glass, coat the inside in this sweet syrupy shit.
    - 2oz rye whisky
    - Ice. I'm using shitty fridge made ice; I've got some nice whisky ice molds on backorder. GIANT ICE CUBES ARE THE BEST.

OK look the premise behind an old fashioned is to make some old whisky a bit palatable. Which means sweetening it up. So it depends on your whisky, right? The Bulleitt rye is a very flavorful and not very sweet whisky, so it benefits from the sugar, etc. That being said, I've made this with Knob Creek and its come out beauifully. Finally: you can throw some lemon zest into the initial muddle and have a pretty good time.

It's made in the same distillery as Dickel's recently released rye, but I think Dickel truck their shit back to the Tennessee distillery for filtering so they can call it a Tennessee whiskey. I'd be interested in reading comparison notes, as I've had Bulleit's rye (great! as you've covered) but not Dickel's. My favorite rye is either Sazerac or Taylor, but I'm a BT fanboy.

    Nice recipe and notes. :)

For some reason, alcoholic eggnog coats my teeth in plaque like nothing else. This might be enough to put me off it forever.

Yeah, I tend to drink real cocktails, not this sorority girl stuff. ;) This Stoli Vanil was a leftover from a party a couple months ago - I'd brought it based on a request from my buddy's sister. JD Honey is the exception to the flavored liquors rule, of course.

It's a good thing you guys are documented whisky drinkers, or I might have to initiate proceedings to revoke your Man Cards. Still, as your penance I assign you 4 old-fashioneds, 4 dry gin martinis, and 2 neat whiskys. May St. Augustine's blessings be upon you in your hour of need.

I kid you not, I used to mess with bartenders by starting off with a Guinness or a neat whiskey, and then ordering a Pina Colada or a Berry Pom Martini for my second drink.

I feel like a funny variant of this would be to start by ordering a martini and getting all snooty about how martinis are by definition gin-based and you're a serious martini drinker who wants it as dry as possible, and then follow that up with an appletini. Downside: you'd have to drink an appletini. :/

I think that's a little too pat, though - you'd just be contradicting yourself. IMO it'd be funnier to order a martini and go on and on about the driest of dry martinis with all the little details of perfect manufacture (shaken not stirred if you will) and then turn around and follow it up with a Bud Lite or a PBR. Same downside, though. :(
