I am in the process of divesting myself of my Xbox 360. However, I have a bunch of music DLC for Rock Band associated with my Live account that I sort of feel would be going to waste. My greatest pain in selling the Xbox is my fear that these purchases are essentially gone now. Can I somehow give the account to a friend who is getting in to Rock Band? Also, how can I clean my hardware of my presence on it? I should probably do such before I sell the Xbox?
Xbox DLC is tied to the console on which it was purchased. As long as you're still using the same Xbox that you bought all the DLC on, in theory, if you give the box away, your friend should still have access to the content. If you bought it on a different console, it is also associated with your gamertag. There's a drm update tool on the Xbox website allowing you to transfer all purchases made with your gamertag to your current console.
Actually, from the live.account help page it looks like you can transfer purchases on the new Xbox itself - I spotted the menu item but didn't click on it (durr). I'm really hoping my mate and his kids (who are buying the music games and guitar) can have fun with my DLC. Thanks for the tips, all. Time to have a gunpowder rum and gingerbeer. I'm feeling strangely nostalgic.
i don't believe they will be able to fully play the songs you have left there- while your music will show up to them, when they go to play it, it will likely only allow you to play a 30-second (or was it 1minute?) 'trial'/demo of the song. for them to be able to play all your dlc fully would require them to log in to your xbl gamer tag (say, on a different controller- they don't have to use it in the game, they just need to be signed in). at least, that has all been my experience with it.
That all depends on whether or not the license is sitting on that console or not. An easy way to test it is to transfer purchases, sign out, then try playing Rock Band.
