Not to say that I didn't make the connection, but since we can't rename Rempo and Ur as Kero and Yue, it's really not worth it, and Bitch is far more rewarding in the long run as it is.

I find that laziness is a powerful deterrent from most anything!

OT: "It's when you smack something with the Book!" is about the most clear-cut explanation I've ever received from a Token Fairy Helper Character.
  3. James Birdsong Beardy Magnificence

    I see your point.
  4. Edelweiss Already Beat BF's New Expansion

And I made you delurk. :DDDDDDDDDDDDD

Rempo doesn't exactly fit the cookie cutter when it comes to Token Fairy Helper Character anything, so I suppose this is just par for the course~

I was waiting for this, I finaly get to say it--!

WOOHOO WE GET TO "BITCH-SMACK" THINGS WITH OUR BOOK NOW

I hope this is accurate for future proceedings of this LP.

It should be. I'm currently grinding Bitch's sword skill through the roof, so Gustav's going to be in for a surprise~ >:3

I like leaping into LPs of games that I have and screeching about them.
Lord, this game. OKAY, I liked the concept of this game. It's very interesting and unique and pretty darn awesome. But oh my god, so much wasted potential, it hurts me to think about it.

I also didn't know this game was out of print, wow. D-does this mean I have a super-rare collector's item?

Everytime someone uses the name in a sentence, I am laughing so hard you have no idea.

I guess the reason why I think it's played out well is because I kinda like dungeon setups like the ones here. Note that I'm probably not going to be getting very good times because of all the needed screenshotting time... But maybe you can forgive me if I just screenshot the moment when I come into the room, and then the result. I won't do it for all of them, but for a few each dungeon so you can see what kind of stuff each one pits you against.

So Rempo does what any good teacher does, and gets us to try an example instead of just explaining the theory and leaving us to flail in the deep end!
    Best Spirit~ <3

    So that's what we do.

    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

    BITCH-SLAPPED.
Also note the little red symbol on the map. Wherever there's a flower to code scan, that mark will appear. And there are many different flowers to find.

    [IMG][IMG]

See? You press the code into the pages! And you can stuff the code of all sorts of things into that book!

I missed capping the first part of this, but Rempo strikes a pose with his intimidating arm shackles.

    "Now it's time to start..."

And then it zooms on Bitch's face, and she nods. It cuts to the Book of Prophecy, which shuts, while a caption flits across the top screen.

    [IMG][IMG]

And then we actually get to control our character for more than half a minute!
The first thing I do, of course, is run around the current map completing the code point count for this area.

And I also run back to Sunny Hill to complete the CP count for that map, as well!

For those of you wondering what I mean by the "Code Point" count, there's a little xnumber/ynumber on the bottom of the right page of the open Book. Each page has a code point count. When you first record something, you are given a fraction of the possible code points for that thing's page. Depending on what it was, you have to do certain things to fill the rest of the page's code point potential. For map pages, that happens to be investigating any interesting features about that area, which is what I did there. It's good to fill the page's code points completely as soon as you can, because those points count towards leveling up the Book, which in turn will open up special events that might give you another scan item or maybe even a recipe for a piece of equipment or a helpful item.

  13. Edelweiss Already Beat BF's New Expansion

So, does anyone mind that I've put the interesting features under spoilers? Should I maybe just not bother from now on? Thought I'd try to be helpful to anyone who decides to play this after reading through this, since I've wasted a lot of time running around the maps looking for the features, ahahaha...

So we walk down a map, into Grana Plains 2, and we find something interesting.

    A what you ask?

That thing. These are what I mean when I say I'm going to be scavenging for recipes. Each metalize tablet holds the recipe for a certain weapon or item. Some of them are hidden in people's houses, some you find after clearing a map of monsters, or talking to certain people about certain places and then going to those places. Some of them are locked, which then requires you to solve sliding puzzles. There's a certain algorithm to it that I've never mastered, but I'll struggle through it, don't worry.

    [IMG][IMG]

Each recipe you find requires a certain base item, such as the sword, which you see in the little picture on the left page there. It also requires certain codes and amounts that you have to input into the code grid of that base item before it'll automatically transform into the item you're making.

"Wait," you cry! "code grid? Codes?" Well...

We do so, and we're introduced to the code grid of the sword.

By tapping on the grid, we open a small, four section strip just beneath it. This is the place where we can store codes not currently in use on any page, for use in any page we deem neccesary. As of now, we are using a rusted battle sword. This is because an "ILL" code coupled with a "COPPER" code creates a "Rust" status. But, take away the ILL code and...

Tadaaa! Now the sword is no longer rusted! This can be used in many ways. You can strengthen weapons and equipment, or even weaken monsters!

That's right, monsters have code grids, too!

    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

As you can see, this goblin has three "STONE" codes. These make him more resilient, and harder to kill. You can take those STONE codes away, and even replace them with the ILL codes we got from our sword to make him even weaker, but I choose not to do so. This is because there are only so many creatures that appear in one map. You can leave and come back and the monsters will reset, but in this case that isn't an option, because Rempo will railroad us into going towards town. So I just left the goblin as is, so I could train my Sword skills.

    Speaking of sword skills...
Bitch seemed pretty boss against that Minotaur back there, didn't she? This game was going to be a breeze, you thought! Well, not only did Bitch's pimped out sword get weaker, but she also lost ability along with it. Bitch could attack a whopping three times with either sword, and five with both, in one combo back at that fight, and she did quite a bit of damage with each slash, to boot. But now... she can only attack a measly one time with either sword, or three if you're good at alternating swords in combos, and she does less than one-hundred damage per slash, compared to her two-fifty with Genesis.

We can fix that, though, so don't despair, my friends! How? By slapping goblins around a certain number of times with the weapon, of course!

    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

And that was what the rest of my night was like. ouo

Aside from collecting the location's features, of course.

I can try, but that is a lot of screens to crop out. There's no way to just make the emulator ignore them in the screenshots, either, as far as I can see. :/
  18. Antiqua Magister Mundi Elyscape

I did name her Sakura! Because she's so cute <3

I'm not exactly convinced yet that the book's not out to get a taste of Bitch's delicious, delicious brain *drool*, but-- OHMYGOD DID ITS EYE JUST MOVE GAHHH KILL IT WITH FIRE QUICK REMPO SAVE US AYIEEEE

*ahem* Welll aanyway. All that code stuff looks complex, but it might be just me and my primitive brain. Yes, primitive! Not tasty at all! Probably horribly unhealthy! Not at all worth the trouble to eat it! I can see how you'd be able to move around the status of your weapons since they are in the magical Book of Whatever and all and a wizard or something-or-other probably did it, but how can you affect monsters with that? By slamming them hard enough to hit the status out of or into them? I should really try to avoid thinking too much about stuff like this in the middle of the night.

I think it's more like by changing the codes in the entry of the book you're changing reality itself?

I tried playing this game a while ago, but desmume lagged TERRIBLY and I got really annoyed with it. I think I only played until I reached the first town? Is the updated emulator better about the lagging issue? My computer is pretty lame, but it lagged even when I tried it out on a better computer. The only way I could play it is if I used no$gba, another emulator, but then I'd lose my save :C
  22. Edelweiss Already Beat BF's New Expansion

There are actually a lot of things you can do to lower lag on the DeSmuME, but yes, the newer seems to be slightly better. There's a walkthrough on youtube to show you how to make it run faster. Right... here.

Anyway, Ivi is correct in saying that by changing codes, you're changing reality. Think of it as the Life H@x from Heartstring Bugs, only you're the Vi in this case. By snapping the code up in the Book, you basically have that thing's very essence within your grasp, and can alter it as you like.

Oh, that does make sense and sounds a lot less stupid than my version. I'm somewhat disappointed it wasn't her hitting stuff with the Book so hard she'd break basic metaphysics and just sort of dislodge properties from the object they instantiated in, though.

So who exactly in this game is datable?
  26. Donmai Hatoful Pigeon

For girls, there's Rex, Duran, Rempo, the lightning spirit, spoilers, and spoilers, and for boys there's Fana, Sylvsomethingelfgirl, Dorothea, Mieli, Neaki, and Lauca Meia. There are still people who ship the female protagonist with Kamui or Romaioni, though!
Nebty, Kamui, Sarasha and 5 others like this.
  27. Edelweiss Already Beat BF's New Expansion

Well, that depends on the gender of the person you chose. Because Avalon does not approve of homosexual relationships. As of now, we've met one (although technically two) of the gettable guys. Heath, who you can't actually romance untill way later in the game, and Rempo. Although Rempo doesn't actually get any events aside from the shackle unlocking, the "Guess Who?" voiced I love you scene and the boyfriend scene, and that's the same for Ur, the other male spirit. Thankfully, we're going after Duran, who is far more interesting. Aside from him and Heath, there's Prince Valdo, who doesn't become available for romancing until post-story gameplay, Rex, your childhood friend, and Anwar, a young swordsman from the desert.

On if you're playing a boy, there's Fana, your other childhood friend, Nanai, the fortune teller, Princess Dorothea, Sylphy, the mayor's daughter, and Lauca, who doesn't appear until later in the game. There's also Mieli and Neaki, the two female spirits, who aren't so interesting to romance, just like their male counterparts.

EDIT: Donmai beat me to it.

Careful with your health, Edelweiss! I can see that you've already lost 2 petals/leaves. It's nice that you're screenshotting this, but are you allowed to save in the book yet? We don't want you going back to the very beginning, to do this all over again. (I can't help but remember my friend playing this for the first time, and she died without saving).
Oh, and nice work with your LP so far! :D

I took another look at how the fancy codes and recordings has worked so far.

And I came to a conclusion.

Unfortunately Kamui, if we go by the information the LP has given us...
Even if you do get bitch-smacked by a big creepy book, you're just gonna get recorded in it, but not much else. You won't be able to romance any spirits, either. Heck, you won't even notice you just got bitch-smacked......

Alternately, you become a love interest to the holder of the book instead. Oh, and if your arms and legs suddenly turn into metal, or you suddenly catch a cold that doesn't go away no matter what you do, don't panic - it's just the book wielder messing with your codes. You'll be back to normal... eventually.
