Ugh. Good luck to all those affected. You folks in the gaming business are stronger than I. SO many ups and downs it would seem.
Blug. Sucks for those affected. Clever of them to time the announcement to happen during the Apple event.
On one hand, sucks for the people losing their jobs. On the other hand, this is one step closer to Zynga shutting down for good.
That's not clever. Clever would be developing a sustainable business model out of their substantial first mover advantage and running their company with a modicum of respect for their employees. What Zynga management has done is act as if they are venture capital with assets to dispose of without figuring out an exit strategy for their increasingly shitty stock holdings.
It seems like only yesterday that we were all being told that Zynga was the future. Commiserations to the people who lost their jobs in this economy, I'm guessing the boom in indie start-ups just got even boomier.
Because I know you're itching for some righteous indignation, want to hear something really fucked up? We had 5 former employees of 38 Studios on our staff. Two of them were contracted workers, but if the studio had stayed open, they likely would have been full-time within a month. As it is, those contractors don't even get the severance package.
He's offered me a job before, but the interview location being behind the McDonald's in Central Square was a red flag.
HAHA! Well played. Er, I've never seen that couch before and completely do not understand its significance.
I think I'm going to pass that picture around and then shame people for recognizing it. "HOW DARE YOU MASTURBATE! TO PORN!"
Can someone tell me what that couch is from? I guess my voluminous knowledge of porn is failing me for once.
To anyone here directly affected by this, I'm sincerely sorry. This is an awful (though recovering) economy to be laid off in.
The leak of internal documents begins. Apparently. Who knew there was a downside to shafting your employees over and over to the point where they all have a fuck you in their back pocket in case things go down?
Oh goody, my schadenfreude levels were getting dangerously low since the Star dock debacle cooled off.
I feel sorry for all those guys who lost their jobs (non-execs, of course), but hey, at least now they can start making games.
That document seems dubious at best. If it is indeed an internal Zynga doc, some of those execs need help with basic English and spelling. But the comments OH THE COMMENTS:
Oh sure, just because the leaked document is written in the same exact broken English as the Anonymous guy's announcement about it, suddenly it's "dubious." WAKE UP
Oh god you're right, that's exactly what the international bankster conspiracy would to do cover their tracks!!
I've been drinking tonight so I give no fucks about posting this. Because guys, this totally made me feel really good about myself. Zynga buys startup in move to more "intense" games. Quotation marks are my editorial prerogative.
